About Us

Lancaster County First Steps helps children reach their first day of school healthy and ready to learn.

From birth to age 5, 85% of a child's brain develops. Our programs help close the gap on school readiness and success by working with Lancaster County families and child care providers to prepare children for their first day of school. We focus on parents, who are their child's first teacher, and on child care providers, who are a vital part of school readiness.

As a South Carolina First Steps to School Readiness (SCFS) partner, we are the only dedicated and comprehensive early childhood nonprofit in Lancaster County focused on getting children ready for school and life success. We serve more than 5,000 children across the county each year, offering programs and services that improve children’s health, strengthen families, expand access to quality child care, support literacy, increase participation in 4K programs, and help rising kindergartners transition into school
